Q&A
Who would you call your mentor?
Ayanna Presley and Margot and Zeena Bushnaq.
Describe your company. How long have you been there, and what led you to this career choice?
BrandBucket is the original domain marketplace. I have been with BrandBucket since June. I have always wanted to get into the tech industry but I didn’t know exactly where I could fit in since I wasn’t an engineer or developer. I come from a community engagement background and knew when I saw the opening at BrandBucket, I had to give it a shot! Especially as a woman, I think it is important to get into industries that are still very male dominated. Working for BrandBucket, I feel inspired working along side such intelligent and innovative coworkers.
Can you tell us about how your service or product helps deliver value to your customers?
At BrandBucket, our service is two-fold. We strive for success with both our sellers and buyers. Our sellers vary from serial domainers to entrepreneurs or really anyone who had domains that they were no longer using and wanted a place to sell them. We offer them a simple process to publish their names for sale and we take care of the rest! Similarly for buyers, we take care of all the escrow services so they can come onto our marketplace, find a name they like and have an easy buying process. We offer Seller Support and designated staff for both the buyers and sellers to reach out if there is ever any issue.
How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?
I keep the marketplace running smoothly and make sure the Seller’s need are heard and met.
What are your thoughts on the new TLDs?
Just with many new things, it is interesting to see what sticks and what doesn’t work. I think that goes for the new TLDs as well. We have to try new ones out to see what the consumer likes to use and what they don’t.
What kinds of changes to you foresee in this industry within the industry in the next year?
I feel like there will be a change in buyer preferences. With new TLDs being released, it will be interesting to see how that effects name choices.
What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming NamesCon?
I am looking forward to connecting with domainers! I am still very new to this industry and always love to hear everyone’s stories of how they become involved with this industry.
What fact about you would surprise people?
I grew up in Portugal!
If you had fifteen extra minutes each day, what would you do with them?
Meditate! Take a few moments to myself and slow down.
Name three things you can’t travel without.
Chapstick, a good book, and my phone.
What object would you put in a time capsule that best represents who you are today?
If plants could survive in a capsule I would say that. I am a huge plant lover but I think it always describes me as a person well. Plants only grow when they have the right elements. I feel like I try really hard to make sure my work, friends and loved ones get everything they need to help the company or relationships grow. It is also something I focus on with myself, self care and being in tune with myself is the only way I can continue to grow in my career and life.
Where is your favourite place to escape?
The beach—it instantly calms me.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Don’t get stuck on what you don’t have control over.
