In Depth

Who would you call your mentor?

Alan Hack

What kinds of changes do you foresee in this industry within the industry in the next year? The next 5 years?

Upcoming year: More end user recognition and resurgence of the ROI of memorable domain names to drive traffic through direct type in navigation vs. just SEO. 5 years: More end user investment in generic and other domain names “passing the radio test,” for brand recognition vs. simply aiming for the first page of the SRL and getting lost in the flood of ads.

What are the current trends that are directly impacting your business?

There are positive trends/impact with more online entrepreneurship and other businesses carving out a new or greater online presence, means more demand for dot com domains which we focus on.

Describe a recent challenge that you overcame.

One challenge I am continually addressing is the balance of life’s responsibilities and distractions while honoring what we believe to be our life’s purpose or using our unique innate gifts to the fullest. With the desire to be of service to others around me, including aging parents, refugee neighbors, or even just mentoring and coaching others in their journey, the time and effort involved can naturally detract from doing what really fuels us most. As a solution, I have tapped into the energy resourcefulness, and skill sets of the “super millennials!” –“delegating and dumping” the overload and whatever I am not uniquely qualified to do to an energetic young bright soul who can do so many things efficiently while bringing their fresh ideas and perspectives into the picture. Their refreshing spirit and capabilities have been uplifting and helped me to recover valuable time for so many inventions and ideas… including a concept I have had for the domain industry since I first began coming to conferences, and finally have made time to materialize!–“Domain Connectors” … where we help each other sell our domain names through our collective networks. It is a great feeling to finally bring that to fruition and introduce it for feedback from friends and colleagues at NamesCon.

What’s the most recent thing you learned (big or small)?

I am learning the Armenian language in an on-line Zoom class, and I discovered by chance that one of the handful of participants from around the globe, turned out to be a cousin and kindred spirit I had never met or known of! It was like finding a long-lost soul sister!

What are you most proud of?

My conscience

What fact about you would surprise people?

I studied biology in college and wanted to do genetic or other medical research and then fortunately found my path to this great industry and community of friends and colleagues! … Vs. looking into a microscope all day!

What was the best advice you were ever given?

If you don’t ask the answer is no.

What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming NamesCon?

Sharing and soliciting ideas and feedback on my new domain community service offering called “Domain Connectors” where we can all work together to use our collective existing relationships outside the Domain Industry to facilitate domain transactions.

How would you describe NamesCon to a new domainer?
