Q&A

Describe your company. How long have you been there, and what led you to this career choice?
Sedo.com is the world’s largest domain marketplace. I was drawn to this industry because it revolves around cutting edge technology and allows me to interact with interesting clients around the world on a daily basis. Looking back, I’ve had the privilege to work in premium domain acquisition and brokerage for the past 10 years now, helping domainers, big corporations, and start-ups with their individual needs. This broad spectrum of products and customers and the ever-changing international markets make this a truly fascinating career path.

Can you tell us about how your service or product helps deliver value to your customers?
At the core of our business is the Sedo marketplace, which connects buyers and seller from around the globe. To compliment that, we offer award-winning domain brokerage, traffic monetization, appraisals, transfers, auctions, the SedoMLS network, and of course customer support in over 25 languages!

How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?
We are like an eBay for domain names, and I help negotiate deals between multiple different parties.

What are your thoughts on the new TLDs?
Although .com still remains the most desirable domain on the aftermarket, it has been very interesting to follow some of the bigger TLD transactions Sedo has brokered over the past several years.

What kinds of changes do you foresee in this industry in the next year?
I think there are some exciting new emerging markets that will certainly impact the industry on a global scale. I also see a lot of new opportunities as companies try to align themselves with changing consumer behavior and new technologies that make the whole world of eCommerce available on smartphones at all times.

What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming NamesCon?
Having interesting discussions with colleagues in the industry, meeting some new faces while catching up with old friends, and sharing ideas and knowledge during panel discussions.

What fact about you would surprise people?
I lived in Shanghai and studied Mandarin several years ago.

If you had fifteen extra minutes each day, what would you do with them?
Spend more time with my family and friends.

Name three things you can’t travel without.
My phone, laptop, and at least three pairs of shoes.

Where is your favorite place to escape?
Detmold, Germany – the beautiful little town I grew up in.

What was the best advice you were ever given?
Always exceed expectations.
