Q&A

What kinds of changes to you foresee within the industry in the next year? 5 years?
Plenty of consolidation within TLD operators. We always believed that the nTLD opportunity would yield a few big winners. Those big winners will have an edge over all other fledgling operators, and that will lead to consolidation primary by way of acquisitions.

Over the last few years we’ve seen this unfold on the registrar segment, we will soon see a similar pattern repeat on the registry side.

What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming NamesCon?
The opportunity to learn and network at NamesCon is fantastic. The event is extremely well run and does a great job of getting together domain investors, entrepreneurs and industry colleagues. We look forward to reconnecting with our top partners and  meeting new prospects who can help us distribute our most valuable premium names in the hands of investor customers and end users.

What fact about you would surprise people?
That I moonlight as a DJ. Sure look forward to my time behind the decks during WaterNight!

How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?
Working with an amazing team to disrupt the internet naming system by offering new, cooler and more available alternatives to .com

What was the best advice you were ever given?
Always think big.

If you had fifteen extra minutes each day, what would you do with them ?

‘Sharpen the axe.’ Learn a new trick, skill or hack.

Can you tell us about how your service or product helps deliver value to your customers ?
Our company has been able to carve a unique place for itself by acquiring some strong alternatives to .com. We’re solving a real problem of individuals and companies being unable to find unregistered domains which are short and memorable. In my experience not a single new end-user is truly satisfied with the .com he or she ends up with. We are providing the consumer with more choice (.site, .space, .website, .online) where he/she is much more likely to get a keyword rich domain that better matches their real life identity or brand name.

What industry trends or topics do you think will be at the forefront of panel and keynote discussions this year?

I believe two topics will dominate: 1) The sudden spike in investment activity from China and 2) New gTLDs.

Who would you like to hear speak at NamesCon? Why?

Domaining legend and good friend Mr. Richard Lau. A true gentleman and someone who is a great ambassador of our industry. Would love to hear his thoughts on the direction of the industry over the next 5-8 years and how we can come together to help our industry flourish.
