Relive the First-Ever Domain Economic Forum

It seems like just yesterday… but really it was a few days ago. NamesCon Global 2020 is in the books, and with it a few milestones. Before we look ahead to next year’s event, let’s take a moment to look in the rearview.

New City, New Vibe

After so many years in Las Vegas, attendees were thrilled to explore a new town. A large crowd of domainers quickly took over the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown. The Atrium Lounge was the perfect spot for the MMX’s .VIP Opening Reception. The Afilias Lounge popped up in one of the Capital Factory’s networking spaces, right next to the Exhibition Hall. There were plenty of great touchpoints for people to make those valuable connections, and the buzzy atmosphere went all day and into the night, each night.

New Focus on Transparency

The Domain Economic Forum began to take shape right away as NamesCon Global 2020 got underway—speakers and their audiences explored how greater transparency could benefit the domain industry in terms of profitability and wider audience. Top domain investors, registrars, and registry operators unveiled tips, tricks, and secrets never before discussed onstage at a domaining conference, and it was really exciting! GoDaddy CEO Amal Bhutani’s keynote focused on how listening can help even a massive company modernize and regain its focus. These sessions will be the subjects of their own articles, so stay tuned.

Exciting Domain Auction

The NamesCon/RightOfTheDot live domain auction was a success with nearly $2 million in sales. ADD..COM sold for $800,000, while OFFICES.COM sold for $260,000 and PLEASE.COM went for $141,000.The extended auction continues through February 14, so it’s not too late to get in on the action. This could well be the biggest domain auction in NamesCon history.

Fun Day at Banger’s

Invented for NamesCon Europe, Fun Day had its American debut at NamesCon Global 2020. We took over two levels of Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Hall, which boasted a cornucopia of sausage (maybe the first-ever use of this phrase?), as well as a bewildering variety of beers non-alcoholic drinks. The NamesCon team was really impressed by how many of you came to Banger’s with your luggage. Asked to choose between A) Flying home, B) Networking, and C) Partying; you chose D) All of the Above.

Women in Domaining celebrated its 10th Anniversary at this year’s NamesCon Global, as we renew our commitment to make domaining less of… well, a sausage party.
