Q&A

Describe your company and how long you have been there.
I am founder of DomainKhan.com. Domaining is one of my action-packed passions, and I have been loving it since last two decades.

I have 20 years of experience in IT industry and still learning new things from my mistakes and the people I meet everywhere. I successfully failed and established many businesses and startups in my life. My area of businesses are well diverse but united with one thread, Internet. These days, I am into multiple ventures like domain name investment, telephonic language training, software product development, e-commerce, astrology, semi-precious stones, legal aid services, publishing text and videos online, and Internet governance.

I am also an active member of Neo-Brahmi Generation Panel under IDN Programs of ICANN. I am consulting this panel for making of LGR (Label Generation Rules) as specified by ICANN and supporting it with on-boarding process. I am also ICANN Fellow alumni and volunteering ICANN in various way.

What can attendees look forward to during your session?
How to negotiate with Indian domainers and businesses, exploring the scope of Indian ccTLDs and IDNs, and learning about the impact of culture in domaining.

What can attendees do in order to prepare for your session? Are there any questions or scenarios they should consider in advance?
They should have basic knowledge about domain names.

What would you like attendees to learn or take away from your session?
They will lean how to deal with Indian domainers and businesses and they’ll be able to start domaining for Indian markets, as well as learn how to negotiate with an Indian domainer and business.

What are your thoughts on the new TLDs?
New TLDs are for specific and niche businesses. If you talk about .music or .attorney, only people or businesses related to music or law can take domain names on these new TLDs. As we know, sponsoring and maintaining new TLDs is a costly affair. So, I see less opportunity in terms of revenue and profits for new TLDs sponsor/registry.

What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming NamesCon?
Networking and learning with peers.

What advice can you offer those who are just getting their start in the domain or related industry?
In your initial stages, do not buy domain names in large numbers. Instead, start with registering four to five domains and try listing them at aftermarket portals and try to outreach prospective through email. As opposed to buying hundreds of domains, it is wise to invest in two to three premium domains. This way you will reduce heavy renewal fees and listing and outreaching become easy. Learn, learn, and learn.

How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?
I buy and sell virtual properties like domain names and websites.

If you had 15 extra minutes each day, what would you do with them?
I would search new domain names for hand registration.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
Bruce Lee.

“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically you own.” – Bruce Lee

Describe your latest and greatest accomplishment in your career.
I was selected as ICANN Fellow in 2017, I started consulting ICANN for IDN Programs in India, and I just hand registered few thousand crypto related domain names.
